Children of all ages celebrated Dr. Seuss on his birthday, Thursday, March 2, at our Main Branch.

Kids made their own Loraxes, stacked as many apples as they could on top of their heads (like in Ten Apples up on Top), designed their own Thing 1 and Thing 2 headbands, and even had some birthday cake.

Of course, there were also Dr. Seuss books available that families could read together.

Mentor Public Library wasn’t alone in celebrating Seuss. Schools and libraries across the country remember the man and his stories as part of the annual event, Read Across America Day. The National Education Association started it in 1998 to honor Seuss and celebrate the joy of reading.
