Meeting Rooms

James R. Garfield Room

The James R. Garfield Community Meeting Room, located in the lower level of the Main Branch, will seat up to 80 people. Library sponsored or cosponsored programs have first priority in scheduling. You need a library card to reserve a meeting room and they must be for non-profit events.

How do you reserve a meeting room?

  • Electronically check our meeting calendar to request a specific time and date
  • Email or phone Sue Fram at the Main Library between 8:30 am - 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, at 440.255.8811 ext. 233.
  • The room is available without charge during normal library hours. Simple refreshments may be served, but users must bring their own supplies and utensils, and must clean up after their meeting. Any damages to the room are charged to the sponsoring group. All meetings must be free and open to the general public. The Community Room is not available for the financial benefit of individuals, organizations or businesses.

    Meeting Room Policies

The Mentor Public Library provides a Community Room for library sponsored or co-sponsored programs which meet the library’s civic, informational, cultural, educational and recreational service goals. When the Community Room is not in use for library activities, it is made available to local community organizations and committees on a first-come basis under the following guidelines as approved by the Board of Trustees:

    • The Community Room is available to groups whose headquarters are located in or who provide services to the residents of the Mentor Library District (City of Mentor, City of Mentor-on-the-Lake, and portions of Concord Township and Kirtland Hills). Those in the rest of Lake County are given secondary opportunity to use the JRG Community Room.
    • The Community Room is NOT available for the financial benefit of individuals or profit-making organizations or businesses.
    • Approval is granted for only a SINGLE meeting or for a brief series of meetings extending for no longer than TWO WEEKS. This Community Room is not intended to be used for a group’s regular meeting place.
    • There is no fee for the use of the Community Room during the normal open hours of the Main Library.
    • A group must advertise its meeting if they are for the general public.
    • Events scheduled must be open to the general public and groups using the Community Room may not charge admission.
    • The Community Room is designed for changing events open to diverse groups and cannot be reserved exclusively for exhibition or display purposes for more than one (1) day.
    • Generally, the Community Room is available for use during the hours the Main Library is open. It is not available on days or at times when the Main Library is closed.
    • Simple refreshments may be served in the Community Room provided the place is left in the same condition as it was found and users bring their own supplies and utensils. The group will be charged for any and all damages beyond normal wear and tear on the furniture, carpet and equipment.
    • Library sponsored or co-sponsored programs have PRIORITY over all non-library programs.
    • Minors may use the Community Room provided a responsible adult is both in attendance at the meeting and signs the application form.
    • The Library reserves the right to discontinue use of the Community Room by any groups which disturbs the usual operation and/or proceedings of the Library; or in any manner abused the privilege of use of the room.
