In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’re sharing some of our favorite love stories with you.
If you see something you like, feel free to borrow it from us.
Some of us love a good swashbuckler. Ms. Judy from circulation recommends The Princess Bride and any Pirates of the Caribbean film with Elizabeth and Will. And Librarian Mary P. desk thinks Han and Leia are the greatest cinematic couple of all time.
Sue F. from our administrative office is smitten with Moonstruck. Meanwhile, Barb H. who manages our Headlands Branch (and leads our Book & Brush Club) swears by Dr. Zhivago—both the book and the film. And Librarian Cailey’s favorite love story Ella Enchanted—the book, not the movie.
Our Circulation Department is filled with great recommendations. Margie loves The Way We Were; Debra, Somewhere in Time; and Robin’s favorite is Titanic. While our reference manager Nate opts for The Last of the Mohicans.
Darlene, our senior resources manager and seed garden goddess, has more than one favorite. From films: Love Story and Dirty Dancing; from books, The Thorn Birds and Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series; from music, “Chapel of Love” and “Last Kiss.”
Finally, Marybeth P. (our resident cinephile) preferred making a handful of suggestions, instead of limiting herself to a single favorite:
- Murphy’s Romance
- My Fair Lady
- Sound of Music
- You’ve Got Mail
- Blade Runner
- Hanover Street
- Harold & Maude
- Sleepless in Seattle
- While You Were Sleeping
And her favorite written romance is Pride and Prejudice.
