Read With Me: How to help your kids love reading

Our new story time will give you the tools you need to help your child learn to love reading.

Our new story time will give you the tools you need to help your child learn to love reading.

We love reading with your kids, but the most important story time is the one that you have with them.

That’s why our newest story time, Read With Me, is designed to teach you tips to promote early literacy at home.

It still has all the stories, songs, and activities that you’ve come to expect from us. But we also want to give you the tools that you need to help your child learn to love reading. We’ll even supply book recommendations and craft supplies that you can use at home.

Each story time will reinforce six pre-reading skills that are essential in preparing children for school success. They are:

1. Print Motivation (Loving Books)
2. Print Awareness (Using Books)
3. Letter Knowledge (ABC’s)
4. Phonological Awareness (Sounds)
5. Vocabulary (Words)
6. Narrative Skills (Storytelling)

Read With Me will be held each month at our Lake Branch. Our first meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24. It’s open to all kids—newborn to three years old—and their caretakers. No registration necessary.
