Ms. Lisa shows our art club her own version of “American Gothic.”

Studio MPL, our art club for kids, learned about American Gothic, its painter Grant Woods, and satire — both its role in Woods’ classic and the many ways the painting has been satirized.

Then, the kids sketched their own versions of American Gothic, substituting in animals, minions, superheroes and more for the famous farmers.

Next month, the young artists will complete the project by painting their sketches.

Every month, the kids in Studio MPL take on a new art project. They’ve sketched live models, celebrated Day of the Deadcreated imaginary friendsmade sun catcherspainted sunsetsweavedtried out pointillism and even garnered inspiration from Jackson Pollock and Joan Miró.

The club is free to attend and open to all kids in first through fifth grade. Our next meeting is 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, at our Main Branch. We do ask that you register beforehand. You can sign up online or call us at 440-255-8811 ext. 221.
