Free Computer Classes this February at Mentor Public Library

We’re offering six free computer classes at our Main Branch in February, including classes on email, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.

The classes include:

  • Basic Internet at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Learn the basics of searching the Internet. Mouse and typing skills required.
  • Excel I at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27. In this class, people will learn how to describe a worksheet and its function; create a basic worksheet and learn how to save it to disk; apply simple formulas to perform calculations; apply simple formatting; and explore options for printing a simple worksheet. (Microsoft Word experience necessary.)
  • Basic Email at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Learn how to use an email account, including how to send, reply, label and archive emails. Also find out how to send attachements.
  • Excel II at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Learn how to create and copy formulas and functions; understand relativity when working with formulas and functions; recognize and troubleshoot errors in formulas and functions; insert, delete and resize rows and columns; and use advanced printing features.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29. Learn how to create and run a presentation using PowerPoint. Discover how to create a presentation, provide basic formatting and background designs, and save the presentation.
  • Excel III at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29. Learn how to hide and freeze columns and rows, use print area and print titles, conditional formatting, and how to create and format charts.

Library hosting free computer classes in January

We’re offering six free computer classes this January at our Main Branch, including introductions on how to use computers, Android smartphones and iPhones

The classes include:

  • Basic Computers at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23. This is our introductory class for computers, so no experience is required.
  • Word 1 at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Learn how to use Microsoft Word to create documents. This basic class requires no previous experience with the software, but you’ll need to know how to use a computer.
  • Learn to Use your Android Phone at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. This session is perfect for people who recently received an Android smartphone but don’t understand how to operate it. Bring your Android with you to the class.
  • Word 2 at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Learn more advanced techniques for Microsoft Word. Discover how to adjust your document’s spacing, alignment, margins and orientation and how to use spell and grammar check, mini toolbars, thesaurus and other tools.
  • Learn to Use your iPhone at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25. Likewise, this class is designed for people who got an iPhone but don’t understand how to operate it. Bring your iPhone with you to the class.
  • Word: Flyers, Pictures and Drawing Tools at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25. Learn how to use Microsoft Word to create flyers and manipulate pictures, as well as use Word’s drawing tools.
