A trio of Lake County Master Gardeners share their experiences with revitalizing an old garden. They offer both general guidelines and unique insights that can guide you when renovating your landscape!

1. Noelle Akin from Petitti Garden Centers will share helpful tips for everyone looking to easily maintain their indoor plants year round. The talk will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at our Main Branch and is open to all. Due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up on our website or call us at 440-255-8811 ext. 1.
2. Did you know that you can get free veggie, flower, and herb seeds from our Seed Library? Check out our collection  the next time you visit our Main Branch. Borrow up to 15 packets of seeds per season.
3. You should also check out the special collection from Holden Forests & Gardens’ Corning Library available at our Main Branch. In addition to a gorgeous arboretum in Kirtland, Holden also has a spectacular collection of gardening, horticulture, environmental and botany books at Corning Library within its arboretum. Dozens of Corning Library’s books are now available to borrow at our Main Branch. Thanks to a partnership between libraries, you can use your cards to check out books from this special collection. Our typical lending rules apply.

Mark Timm from the Lake County Master Gardeners explains how to manage pernicious pests and wicked weeds by selecting the correct plants, establishing good practices (including inspection and monitoring), and applying controls to your garden. There’s not a one-size-fits-all solution or quick fix for weeds and pests. However, with strategy and diligence you can protect your garden from the worst dangers.

Our next free talk with the Lake County Master Gardeners will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at our Main Branch. They’ll discuss how to transform your garden into a paradise for pollinators!

Lake County Master Gardener Robin McNaught offered a tour of what new cultivars are available for annuals and perennials during a program hosted on Saturday at our Main Branch. She also sharshareds what guidelines you should use when picking new additions for your garden.
