Tom Batiuk on creating comics for 46 years

Funky Winkerbean and Crankshaft creator Tom Batiuk joined us last month for our inaugural Northcoast Writers’ Showcase.

He discussed how he became a cartoonist and his favorite stories from 46 years of creating comics strips.

He also explains why cartoonists need knowledge “a mile wide and an inch deep.”

By the way, sequential-art enthusiasts should join us when Derf Backderf visits the library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12.

Backderf wrote the bestselling graphic novel, My Friend Dahmer, about his high-school friendship with Jeffrey Dahmer — the awkward and troubled teen who would later become the century’s most notorious serial killer.

Backderf’s talk is both free to attend and open to all. You can RSVP online or call us at (440) 255-8811 ext. 247.
