Our Wordplay Writing Club connects the dots

If storytelling is connecting two points, then good storytelling is making surprising connections in an entertaining fashion.

And we forced our Wordplay Club to connect some strange dots on Wednesday.

Our young writers had to compose stories using words they selected randomly from our Word Jar. The seemingly unconnected words forced them to think creatively, and they were up to the challenge!

They wrote action romps starring a doll and horse, an infomercial for a Zipper Cup, and more—the weirder the words, the wilder the story.

Andrew explains why we should all buy a Zipper Cup.

If you have a child who loves to write, they can join our club.

Wordplay Creative Writing Club is for kids in third through sixth grade. They meet at 4:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month at our Main Branch. The next meeting is June 8.

You can register your child for Wordplay by calling (440) 255-8811 ext. 221 or sign them up on MPL’s website.

Mentor Public Library has a writing club for teens too.

Our Write On Club meets on the third Monday of every month at our Main Branch.

They use different writing prompts and brainteasers to hone their writing skills.  Any teen who wants to join their ranks is welcome. It’s a fun, supportive place to practice and improve your writing with other teens who are doing the same thing.

Our next meeting is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, at our Main Branch. You can register for it on our website, as well.
