You can read away up to $10 in library fines during Saturdays this September at Mentor Public Library

To celebrate our 200th anniversary, you can read away the fines on your Mentor Public Library card on Saturdays this September.

Every Saturday this upcoming month, you can read at one of our branches. One dollar of your fines will be waived for every half hour you read. You can have up to $10 in fines forgiven this way this September.

To participate, you will need to pick up a Read Away Your Fines slip from the circulation desk when you arrive at the branch, and return it filled out when you have finished reading.

One exception: bills accrued from lost items and referral fees cannot be waived as part of this promotion.

A young reader finds her new favorite book on our Pop-Up Library during CityFest.

Don’t forget to visit our Pop-Up Library while you’re enjoying the inflateables, zip lines, magicians, bands and Ninja Warrior course this Friday at Saturday at CityFest.

We’ve stocked our Pop-Up with hundreds of books for kids, so feel free to grab one (or even a few) for your family.

The books are free to keep forever. You don’t need a library card or to return them to one of our branches. (If you like, you can drop the book off in one of our Little Free Libraries when you’re finished.) So stop by during CityFest and pick something up. It might just be your new favorite book.

And make sure you spot us during the parade on Saturday too. 😉

Borrowing magazines on OverDrive

By |2019-08-18T15:12:57-04:00August 18, 2019|

You already know that you can borrow ebooks and audiobooks from OverDrive with your library card. (More than ever, now that we’ve joined CLEVNET.)

You may even know that you can use OverDrive to stream videos to your favorite device.

But did you know that you can use OverDrive to read current and back issues of your favorite magazine? It’s true! You can borrow digital editions of Popular Science, Gourmet, HGTV, Reader’s Digest, O The Oprah Magazine and more for free.

You can “check out” as many as issues as you want and read them at their convenience for the next 21 days. You can access them via desktop or the OverDrive or Libby apps. (The apps are free from the Google Play and Apple stores.) All issues automatically expire at the end of the lending period so there are no late fees.

By the way, you can also borrow digital issues of popular magazines with Flipster.

You can check out both new and back issues of 56 different magazines with Flipster, including People, Atlantic, Times, Cosmopolitan, Bon Appetit, Highlights, New Yorker, Money, Redbook, Rolling Stone, US Weekly, Vogue and Teen Vogue, Wired, Runner’s World, Women’s Health, Zoobooks, and Vanity Fair.

And we’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: All of these digital services and more are available without additional cost. All you need is your Mentor Public Library card.
