Imagine Your Story with Summer Reading at Mentor Public Library

By |2021-05-18T06:00:50-04:00May 18, 2021|

Summer Reading takes off on Friday, June 4, at Mentor Public Library!

Mentor Public Library is celebrating both the start of Summer Reading and the return of in-person outdoor programming this June!

Once again, kids, teens and adults can win spectacular prizes from us for reading this summer. Kids (those entering sixth grade or younger) can earn a raffle ticket for every hour they read or are read to. The more they read, the better chance they have to win one of the our awesome prizes!

Kids who read at least 20 hours during Summer Reading will also earn a golden ticket and a chance to win a $50 gift card to Target.

Meanwhile, teens (those entering seventh grade and older) and adults can earn raffle tickets two ways. First, they can earn a ticket for each book they read. Next, they can earn up to 10 bonus tickets by completing different challenges. Each ticket means a better chance of winning!

Summer Reading starts Friday, June 4! Patrons can sign up at any of our branches.

This year’s theme is Imagine Your Story and we’re hosting programs all summer long about fairy tales, myths and magic. Magical Mondays, Funday Fridays, and so much more! Some will be hosted online via Zoom, while others will be held in-person outside at our branches (weather permitting.)

Additionally, we’re once again hosting story times daily outside our branches. Visit our online event calendar to see which story times best fit your family’s schedule. Registration is required for all programs, including our story times, before attending. You can sign up for both in-person or online programs on our website or by calling us at (440) 255-8811.

Practice your reading skills with Jill

By |2020-06-01T10:00:23-04:00June 1, 2020|

Do you know what the summer slide is? It’s not on any playground.

It is the educational skills that our children worked hard to gain during the school year but can lose over the summer if they don’t use them.

That’s one of the reasons summer reading is so important. It helps you practice those valuable skills!

Our own Ms. Jill — who is a certified teacher — wants to help you practice too. At 10 a.m. every Monday, she’ll share a video where she helps you practice a valuable reading skill.

Come back here each week for a new video, and make sure you get plenty of reading practice. We even know somewhere you can win prizes for reading.
