Out of this World Party at MPL’s Lake Branch

By |2019-07-05T06:00:37-04:00July 5, 2019|

Kids can celebrate the anniversary of the moon landing at our Lake Branch.

Kids can celebrate the anniversary of the moon landing at our Lake Branch.

Families can celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with an out-of-this-world party at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at our Lake Branch.

Kids will design their own spaceship Frisbee. Then, they’ll “steer” their spaceship through a 9-hole disc golf course.

Performer Annabella Noelle will also demonstrate some gravity-defying acrobatics for the kids.

The party is free to attend and open to kids of all ages. No registration is required.

By the way, this year’s Summer Reading theme is A Universe of Stories, so we’re offering programs that will leave stars in your eyes all summer.

We’re hosting Marvelous Mondays at 1 p.m. each Monday through July 22 on the lawn of our Read House. Each week the we’ll offer different games, crafts and activities that tie into space, planets and even aliens. Then, families can come to Freaky Fridays at 11 a.m. each Friday at our Lake Branch. Every week, we’ll have stellar activities for kids. No registration is required to attend Marvelous Mondays or Freaky Fridays.

And that’s just a smattering of the dozens of programs we’re offering this summer. They are free to attend, though some require registration. To sign up, call us at any of our branches.

Finally, everyone – kids, teens and adults – has a chance to win prizes when they participate Mentor Public Library’s Summer Reading program. The more people read and the more programs they attend, the better chance they have of winning.

Fun is never old-fashioned

By |2019-07-03T06:00:59-04:00July 3, 2019|

Kids play bocce on the Lake Branch's lawn.

Kids play bocce on the Lake Branch’s lawn.

Kids played old-fashioned games like croquet, drop the handkerchief, bocce, and the game of graces earlier this summer at the Lake Branch with our friends from Lake County History Center.

And, while the games might be old-fashioned, fun is never out of style.

By the way, we’re celebrating a little history of our own at Mentor Public Library. This year is our bicentennial. (We look good for our age.)

And everyone is invited to our 200th Anniversary Party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, on our Main Branch lawn.

You can help us make a community mosaic of Mentor with Gail Christofferson of Animal House Glass. Also, Tom Todd, the Amazing One Man Band, will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, sit back, and enjoy  a little bit of Jimmy Buffett.

We’ll also have cake and contests. All are welcome and no registration is required to attend our party!
