Eclipse of a Lifetime with Geauga Parks (VIRTUAL) @ Online

Get ready for the upcoming total solar eclipse that Northeast Ohio will experience on April 8, 2024! Northeast Ohio hasn’t experienced a total solar eclipse since 1806 and won’t see one again for 420 years. We’ll also give you the tips and techniques you’ll need to share the eclipse with your family. Presented by Chris Mentrek from the Geauga Parks District.
**Please note that eclipse glasses will be distributed at the end of this program and only to those present for the complete virtual talk. Each attendee must be registered and can stop in the library later this evening (3/28) or the following Friday, March 29 from 9a-5p.

Let’s Cook: Spiced Samosa Patties @ Main

Join us for a cooking demonstration featuring plant-based recipes with LaDonna from “Let’s Cook!” mobile cooking school and head chef at Nourish Cafe.
For April, LaDonna will be making Spiced Samosa Patties. This simple appetizer recipe is a delicious twist on a traditional Indian favorite. These are crispy little patties that are easy to put together using just a few ingredients and their flavor will bring pizzaz to the party.

Presentor Steve Manchook offers a basic course exploring the advantages and limitations of the popular cell phone camera. This presentation is in two parts, the first half a primer on the technical aspects of the cell phone. The second portion deals with the aesthetic (artistic) aspects of image making including lighting, composition, post-production software, black and white conversions, and more.

This unique book club will feature graphic novels for 12 to 17 year old patrons. Graphic novels are an engaging genre which highlights not only the narrative but artistic expression as well. This group will meet on the last Monday of the month at Headlands Branch from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In addition to reading current graphic novels, attendees will be given a graphic novel journal and encouraged to write and share their own stories with the group.
Our March graphic novel will be The Croaking Volume 1: At First Flight by Megan Grey.

Nature Journaling @ Headlands (offsite)

The library meets the wilderness! Join us every month at a different Mentor park to forge a deeper connection with yourself and with the marvels of nature living in our own neighborhood. We’ll explore different journaling techniques across a variety of mediums.
No experience necessary – open to all ages and skill levels. Limited instruction will be given, as this is a way for each individual to find ways to create a habit of observing and connecting to nature. All supplies provided (but feel free to bring your own!).
First meeting will take place at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve & Marina (8365 Harbor Drive). Registration is required.

Don’t read your books – Listen to them instead! Not only can you download eBooks at MPL, but now you can also download Audiobooks. Audiobooks can now be loaded onto PCs, Macs®, MP3 players, and many other mobile devices directly from your computer at home.
Mentor Public Library has expanded its online services by adding “eAudiobooks,” available to download from the library’s Web site through a new service powered by OverDrive. The service is free to patrons with a Mentor Public Library card. Users will need to install OverDrive® Media Console™ a free software found on the library’s Web site.
